A New Power Is Rising...

1) Before we begin, let me start this the basics. What is your author name?

Tim McKay

2) What is the genre you write?

YA Dark Fantasy Horror

3) In one sentence, can you give me a tagline for your book?

From the pits of an ancient darkness, a new power is rising.

4) Tell me three fun facts about you.

I have 6 tattoos (so far):

● Two matching tattoos on each arm, a pointed infinity representing the infinite potential (for both good and evil) in us all, broken to pieces but pulled together by destiny (celtic weaves).

● A Triforce (yeah, huge Zelda fan) - with a miniature Batarang in the middle from the Christopher Nolan / Christian Bale trilogy

● A small fire dragon with a bird’s wing, meant as a cross between a phoenix, to symbolize rebirth, and the Aiel chieftain tattoo from the Wheel of Time series because, well, you guessed it: big fan.

● A black Wheel of Time symbol on a backdrop of fire, representing destiny, serenity, and “the void and the flame”

● The Nightingale symbol from Skyrim, modified with an eagle’s head and set on a backdrop of blue and purple flame, to represent the Evergloam and the balance between skill and luck.

Another fun fact: I used to do kickboxing. Won a small tournament, got two silver medals at another. Those were some great years and great memories. My coach was one of those outstanding people who by all rights you should fear (being world champion, and all that implies) but who fostered potential in others with more skill and compassion than I ever witnessed in all my church years.

One more: I juggle. A lot. It helps me think - probably an ADHD thing. I picked it up when I was ten and, with only a few years excepted, it’s been a lifelong hobby bordering on obsessive quirk. My best daydreams and stories emerged from long sessions of tossing hacky sacks in the air.

5) What is your passion?

My passion?

● This - writing, creating meaningful experiences for others.

● Seeing and fostering potential in others. And that starts with treating others with dignity and respect, even when it would be easy not too. Even when you feel the urge not to.

6) What are some of your favorite drinks?

Coffee, Rooibos tea, Scotch, and red wine

7) What is your favorite movie?

Oh, don’t get me started.

● Count of Monte Cristo

● Les Mis (with Liam Neeson, Uma Thurman, and Geoffrey Rush)

● Master and Commander

● Gladiator

● A Beautiful Mind

● LOTR

● Kingdom of Heaven

● You’ve Got Mail

● Pride and Prejudice

● Forrest Gump

● Simon Birch

● The Last Samurai

● Warrior (Tom Hardy & Joel Edgerton)

● 3:10 to Yuma

● The Prestige

● Now You See Me

● Transcendence

… the list goes on.

8) Okay! Let’s switch over to your book(s). Tell me a little bit about it/them.

From the pits of an ancient darkness, a new power is rising.

Ceremai has fallen.

After a decade of struggle for independence, a fledgling nation collapses under the unrelenting force of invasion.

Join an unlikely band of allies on a journey beset by shadow and intrigue, pulled by the strings of fate to the source of a new evil.

A lord’s daughter turns assassin. An orphan girl discovers her power. A captain plots in vain.

And the last soldier of Ceremai finds his destiny.

Witness the dawn of a new age, and learn if what evil intended for harm…

… can become something far more terrible.

Rise of Dresca is the first book of the Draemeir Chronicle. Enter a world where evil parasitizes the meek and arrogant alike. Where limitless power and knowledge can be yours for a price, not of your soul, but of your mind, your will, and your resolve to be free. In the land of Naevoroth, a new power is rising. And it’s yours for the taking.

9) Now let me know a little bit about yourself as an author.

I am a writer, editor, and marketer from Ottawa, Canada. I used to be a pastor, still care about good and evil, and still strive to create meaningful experiences for others. I have degrees in history, theology, and public policy, along with a diploma in professional writing, but I like nothing more than hiking in the woods, running along the Rideau Canal, and connecting with the people he loves. Oh, and reading a good book.
