A Chat with Award-Winning Science Fiction Author David Vissers

  1. What is your Author name; use your Pen name if you have one.

David Vissers

2. What is your genre and what drew you to it?

Dark Fantasy blended with Space Opera. I always loved fantasy but felt it needed starships. I also primarily rooted for the bad guys.

 3. How far along are you on your current work-in-progress?

80%. I’m just wrapping up the ending.

 4. What is the best time of day for you to write?

Evenings. I think less so I can write more. Overthinking causes my writer’s block. I’m most productive when I’m tired due to this.

 5. Which character of yours is your favorite and why?

Captain Neveau, a morally flexible Fixer-for-Hire abducted from Earth by aliens in 2014. He’s charismatic yet irreverent.

 6. What is your favorite way to connect with readers? (Social media, newsletters or something else)

I’m old school. I enjoy connecting with readers via Facebook and YouTube. My socials are @davidvissersbooks on every platform.

7. What is the hardest challenge in being a writer?

Promoting using social media (because of the algorithms) and reviews. Getting reviews are so tough!

 8. What gives you the most satisfaction in the writing process?

Hearing readers tell me they stayed up all night reading because the suspense was great.

 9. Who did you dedicate your first book to and why?

Dean Koontz. He got me into writing and encouraged me. He’s a really awesome guy!

 10. Pick five books that are must-reads in your mind.

The Giver, The Hobbit, The Magicians (trilogy), Odd Thomas (series), and The Count of Monte Cristo.

 11. Which book villain would be the hardest to defeat?

Grand Admiral Thrawn

 12. If you could take one item out of any book that you have ever read, what would it be or why?

The Tardis. I could live in it and travel the universe at any point in time.

 13. Villain, hero or “show steeling” side character? Which would you be?

The villain. I usually side with morally gray anti-heroes doing the wrong things for the right reasons.

14. What is the name of your book/series? Tell me a little bit about them.

The Epythanor Quartet

1. Darkness in a Sea of Stars

2. Shadow of a Distant Sun

3. Depths of the Perilous Void

4. Nightfall under a Crimson Moon

The “Chosen One” loses herself in a galaxy-wide quest for revenge.

The series follows the prophecy of Epythanor which speaks of an epic battle between a “chosen one” and a harbinger of death as it leads up to the coinciding destruction of Earth and my fantasy world, Undirras. Alexis Rydell is just your average anxiety-riddled high school senior until she develops powers beyond her understanding and is thrust into a galaxy filled with beings who all tell her she is the chosen one destined to end the Wrakknyss regime that holds a firm grip on the galaxy. Each book features a motley crew cast of characters, morally gray anti-heroes, sympathetic villains, and is packed with suspense. Darkness in a Sea of Stars is out now and Shadow of a Distant Sun is scheduled to release December 2024.

15. Do you have a website? If so, what is it?

16. Where can we find and follow you? (Name your social media platforms.)

Facebook, YouTube, & TikTok: @davidvissersbooks

 17. If there anything important that you would want my readers to know about you?

Sometimes the bad guys win.
