1) What is your Author name; use your Pen name if you have one.
Shae Smith
2) What inspired you to become a writer?
The love of reading! I began reading at the age of four and writing by the age of seven.
3) Which character of yours is your favorite and why?
Conrad Ashcraft from my scifi-fantasy, “Que the Trumpets”. Conrad battles depression and his resilience is magical. From dark humor to bravery, Conrad has it all.
4) What is the best time of day for you to write?
I prefer afternoon when I am most energized, but usually at night when the kids are in bed.
5) What is the hardest challenge in being a writer?
Showing up every day. It can be a challenge, especially for those who are just starting their career in writing. (Truthfully it’s marketing, but everyone says that haha!)
6) What is your favorite part about being a writer?
It relieves my stress! I am the most relaxed when writing.
7) What is the one thing you wish you knew at the beginning of your writing journey?
Connecting with other authors! I had no clue how many people shared the same dream and passion…until I found the author community.

8) What is your favorite character from any book you have ever read?
Katniss Everdeen from the “Hunger Games” series! She was the first strong female lead character that really inspired me.
9) Where is your favorite place to read?
Nature! In the shades of the trees.
10) What was your favorite childhood book?
“The Velveteen Rabbit”- My grandmother used to read this to me as a child and it was the start of my love for reading.
11) If you could live in any “book world” what would that be?
Hands down “Harry Potter”- the worldbuilding in this series inspired my writing from early on. In my eyes, Hogwarts is far more magical than Disneyland.
12) How do you arrange your bookshelves? (Color, alphabetical or another method)
The Dewey Decimal System!
13) In your opinion, can a book series be too long?
For me, yes. I struggle to read series due to my attention span. 3-4 books is usually my max I can read in a series…. Unless the series completely steals my heart away, of course!

14) What is the name of your book/series? Tell me a little bit about them.
“17 Cycles Around the Sun” Series- A collection of scifi-fantasy stories that explores the depths of mental illness in a multi-dimensional universe.
“17 Lifetimes”- Follow Camry McClain as she explores adulthood while suffering with depression due to the unsolved missing case of her little brother. Camry discovers her husband, Ty, has been withholding a secret from her—one she could’ve never saw coming. Ty is from another planet and may have some answers for Camry about her missing brother.
“Que the Trumpets”- Conrad Ashcraft is grieving the loss of his sister, Maci. Maci lost her life due to depression and Conrad is now battling his own mental turmoil. Conrad ends up washed ashore on the planet, Tex, after saving a child from drowning in the mundane world. Tex is often referred to as, “the prison planet” and harbors thousands of criminals from other planets in facilities that are meant to keep them locked in for eternity. On the outside of the prison walls are spirits—the lost souls of those who had taken their own life, trapped on Tex forever. Conrad realizes he has the chance to find Maci’s soul and get the answers he needs to heal.
“SOUR”- A standalone, slowburn romantic-thriller about a woman raised by serial killers. The Lumens live on a lemon tree grove called, “The Lumen Lemon Farms” where they sell goods at the bakery during the day and bury their victims in the grove at night—planting a new lemon tree on top of each grave. Sable Bell Lumen is expected to kill someone by the age of 21. She meets a charming man named, Jones Law, and unexpectedly falls in love with him. Now her parents want her to kill him as her first victim, or Sable Bell will become a part of the lemon grove graveyard with the rest of their victims.
